A sci-fi landscape created in order for me to practice Copic blending.  I kind of regret the bubblegum-colored circles - they were originally supposed to be like spores. Ah well ^-^

(Also side note - Yay! I am all caught up with uploading any pending DA items! I seriously neglected my gallery for a while >_>;; )

Tools: Copics, pen on sketch paper

Very cool concept! Love the soft gradient to those plants, as well. Nice work :)

Hi from :iconprojectcomment:Hi!
Ah, this is nice and interesting! :) (Smile) It's very refreshing to see a science-fiction landscape done in art-nouveau-esque style. :D (Big Grin)
The colour-scheme is really relaxing, it makes the whole scene serene and enchanting. If it were possible, I'd definitely go explore that place.
Neat work, fellow deviant! ;) (Wink)

This is definitely eye catching. I love your colour scheme, using all the secondary colours. I love how the frame fits win with the style of the growing plants. There's a unity to the piece.

It actually took me a while to notice the human figures, and when I did, that made the scene pop in a new way. This image transports me right away into the feeling of "otherness". Great job!

I like this, very cool and well done! It's odd, normally I wouldn't add borders like this but in this piece it makes it really stand out! Very awesome.

Thanks!  Yeah, I almost took the border off after sketching it out, but since I was trying to have fun/practice I thought I'd experiment and keep it in ^_^

Commenting for ProjectComment.

This is a very interesting and strangely beautiful piece.
I love all the different colors scattered about the pieces that somehow still blends as well as they do. The sky especially.

I do see what you mean about being unhappy with the 'spores' as they did come off as bubbles of some sort before I read your description.
I love the intrigue that's made in how expansive the wasteland seems to be, and how small the people are compared to these plants.
The man-made frame is also a nice touch.

If I had any complaints, the style itself seems to be more intentionally two dimensional but everything seems to still be fairly well shaded and with dimension. However, the green portions of the plants seem much more flat in comparison to everything else, but other than that it all comes together very nicely.

Thank you! Your comment is very helpful :)

I do tend to make things feel flat when using ink and markers, but I'm hoping to get away from it to pieces with more visual depth. Just need more practice haha :D

Wow, colours are so beautiful; the thumbnail instantly got my attention! :happybounce:

Oh, and if you don't mind me asking: Where did you buy the copic markers from? I've been looking to find some for ages!

Thank you :3

I've been acquiring my Copics overtime so it's a bit of a mix ^-^  Way back in 2008, I bought a larger set at a booth Copic had at the anime convention Anime Expo  (www.anime-expo.org/) . For the rest, I used the Blick Art Supply site www.dickblick.com/brands/copic… because they seem to have the best prices.  I mostly have the "Sketch" kind, but some "Ciao" and "original style".

Every once in a while the university bookstore near me has Copics on sale 25% or 50% off and I try to pick up a few when they go on sale. Otherwise they're so expensive ._.

I've seen some sets on Ebay, but that makes me nervous if they are used and end up being dried out.  One time I bought Spectrum Noir craft markers from Amazon and the set was super dried out, so I was able to return it and get my money back. Always a good safety net to have

Hope that helps!
